Family Driving School offers 6-Hour Adult Permit Class Online with an online education partner, Pass Drivers Ed. Pass Drivers Ed and Family Driving School's curriculum is designed for adults ages 18-24 looking to obtain a Driver's License for the first time and has been 100% approved by the state of Texas.

This course will satisfy all the requirements for the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to apply for your Driver's License. The Texas DPS does not require those over the age of 25 to take driver's education; however, taking this course can be extremely helpful and waive the DPS' written exam.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Adult Driver’s Ed Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which Adult Driver's Education Course is Right for Me at Family Driving School?

At Family Driving School, we provide two options for adult driver's education: in-person and online courses. Our in-person program is currently available exclusively in Spanish, catering to Spanish-speaking individuals, while our online program is exclusively offered in English, accommodating those who prefer an online learning experience.

When deciding between the two, consider your language preference and learning style. If you are more comfortable with Spanish instruction and prefer face-to-face interaction, our in-person course might be the perfect fit. On the other hand, if you prefer the flexibility of online learning and prefer English instruction, our online program is the ideal choice.

Regardless of the option you choose, rest assured that both courses adhere to the highest standards of quality and are designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to become a safe and responsible driver.

  • At what age do I need to take an adult driver's ed course instead of a teen course?

If you are between the ages of 18 and 24 and are looking to apply for your first Texas driver's license, then you must successfully complete an adult driver's education course.

  • Am I required to take driver's ed, or can I just get my license when I turn 18?

You cannot get your driver's license under the age of 25 without having first completed a state-approved driver's education program. It is mandatory for all Texas adults ages 18-24.

  • What will I need to get my learner’s license (permit) as an adult?

In order to obtain your learner’s license as an adult you will need the following:

    • Have your ADE-1317 certificate
    • Complete the driver's license application before arriving at your local office (This form is
    • also available at all driver's license offices).
    • Make an appointment at a driver's license office.

Provide the following documentation to the license and permit specialist:

    • Application for the issuance of a driver's license
    • U.S. Citizenship or, if you are not a U.S. Citizen, evidence of lawful presence
    • Texas Residency
    • Identity, and
    • Social Security Number
    • Provide your signature for DL or ID.
    • Provide your thumbprints.
    • Have your picture taken.
    • Pay the application fee.
    • Pass the vision exam.

After this, you should be handed your learner’s license (permit)!

  • Is your online course officially approved?

Yes, our online driver education program is fully DPS-approved, meeting and exceeding all the requirements set by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). You can trust that our course covers all the essential topics and prepares you for your Texas driver's license over 25.
